The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari who passed away recently, NaijNaira can report.
This declaration follows a statement released on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and was reported by Channels TV.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the holiday as part of the seven-day national mourning period that began on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo described the move as a tribute to Buhari’s role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic path and governance structure.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” he said.
He urged citizens to observe the day by fostering national unity and reflecting on the values Buhari stood for.
Flags across the country will fly at half-mast throughout the mourning period as a symbol of national grief.
The government also extended its condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.
Prayers were offered for the peaceful rest of the former President’s soul.
