Seun Kuti, the renowned Afrobeats musician, will be arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos on September 27th.
The case has faced several adjournments, and the latest delay was due to Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun being indisposed on Monday.
The musician’s arrest was ordered by the former Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, on May 13th, following an incident where Seun Kuti allegedly assaulted a police officer in uniform on the Third Mainland Bridge.
In his defence, Seun Kuti took to his Instagram Story to claim that the police officer had attempted to kill him. However, he stated that he would not be pressing charges against the officer.
After his arrest, Seun Kuti was handcuffed and taken to the state CID in Panti, Yaba for investigation. He was later released on May 23rd after meeting the conditions of his bail.
Seun Kuti, the son of the legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has been vocal about social and political issues through his music, carrying on his father’s legacy. He has garnered a massive following both in Nigeria and internationally.
