The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made it clear that it will not welcome the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, into its fold. This was revealed by Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the APC, during a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Secondus, along with several other prominent PDP members, had indicated their intention to defect to the APC and declared their loyalty and support for President Bola Tinubu and the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayifubara. However, Okocha, a loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, described this show of support as mischievous and hypocritical.
Okocha accused Secondus and the others of previously hurling insults and invectives at Tinubu during the presidential election campaign. He also criticized them for emboldening Governor Similayefubara to disrespect President Tinubu by refusing to implement the 8-point presidential proclamation aimed at resolving the political crisis in Rivers State.
The APC chieftain emphasized that Wike is still a member of the PDP and argued that it would be disrespectful for the party to accept those who attempt to join through the window when the door is open. Okocha questioned why they would insult President Tinubu by claiming that he appointed a kleptocrat as a minister and challenged them to withdraw their court suits challenging the President’s powers to mediate in the political crisis in Rivers State.
He further pointed out that if they truly respected President Tinubu, they would not publicly condemn a properly constituted assembly made up of 27 members out of the current 30.
