Moises Caicedo, the Ecuadorian footballer, will be staying with Brighton after signing a new contract following interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners had made two unsuccessful bids for him during the January transfer window.
Despite Caicedo expressing his desire to leave and join Arsenal, Brighton refused to let go of their midfielder, especially after losing another player, Leandro Trossard, to Arsenal earlier.
It was believed that Mikel Arteta’s side would make another attempt in the summer but that plan has now been scuppered as Brighton have extended Caicedo’s contract until 2027 with an option for another year.
Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton’s manager expressed delight at the news and said it will make them stronger moving forward towards their goals on the pitch.
On the other hand, Caicedo was left disappointed following failed negotiations as it would have “fulfilled his dream of joining Arsenal”, according to his agent Manuel Sierra.
In any case, this is a massive statement from Brighton to show their intent on keeping their players and achieving results in future campaigns.
