Charles Bronson, Britain’s most notorious prisoner, has been denied parole for the eighth time after serving 50 years in prison.
The parole board ruled that he must remain behind bars, despite his appeal for freedom. Bronson, who is currently held at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes, is only allowed out of his cell for 90 minutes a day.
During his parole hearing, he admitted to having no remorse for taking a governor hostage, winning £1,500 from football bets, and enjoying fighting in jailhouse brawls.
Despite his violent past, Bronson claimed that he plans to live like a “gentleman” in the country if he is released.
However, his offender manager raised concerns about his ability to fit into society, while an independent psychologist suggested that he would be less of a risk in a community environment than in prison.
Bronson’s campaign of crimes includes holding 11 people hostage across nine sieges, with victims ranging from governors to his own solicitor.
