Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has issued a warning to Sir Jim Ratcliffe regarding his plans to take over Manchester United.
Ratcliffe, the owner of Ineos, is competing with Sheikh Jassim, the chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank, to buy United from the Glazers.
While Sheikh Jassim has reportedly submitted a £5 billion bid for a 100% stake in the club, Ratcliffe’s Ineos group has only bid for a controlling stake.
The Glazers are expected to confirm the “winning” bid within days, with Ratcliffe said to be the preferred bidder.
However, if Ratcliffe looks to replace United’s current CEO, Richard Arnold, it could cause disruption given Arnold’s influence.
Boehly’s tenure at Chelsea may act as a warning to Ratcliffe not to change too much too soon.
When Chelsea was sold last year, the club lost the expertise of key figures, and Boehly’s subsequent spending on transfers has left the club languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
