Senator Chimaroke Nnamani caused a stir on Monday morning when he changed the profile picture of his verified Twitter account to one featuring himself alongside Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although Nnamani is contesting for re-election on the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) platform, the former governor from Enugu has voiced support for Tinubu since he became the ruling party’s presidential candidate.
This led PDP to suspend Nnamani on charges of anti-party activities due to his refusal to back Atiku Abubakar’s ambition.
The decision by PDP has been deemed unjust and unfair as it is contrary to their own constitution which states that political offices should be rotated every election between the northern and southern parts of Nigeria for equity, justice, and fairness.
It was expected that in 2023, PDP would honor this provision but instead allowed northern and southern aspirants to compete against each other in Port Harcourt primaries which gave Atiku Abubakar his presidential ticket.
