Barcelona is at risk of having Dani Olmo unavailable for the second half of the season after a court rejected their lawsuit to extend the forward’s temporary registration beyond December 31.

The €57 million summer signing from RB Leipzig, was granted a provisional registration to cover for the injured Andreas Christensen.

Barcelona sought a court order to extend both Olmo and Christensen’s registrations for the remainder of the season, arguing that failing to do so would violate workers’ rights in Spain.

However, the court rejected their request, with LaLiga welcoming the decision, stating that the necessary conditions for an interim measure had not been met.

Barcelona is still in breach of their €426 million annual spending cap, which restricts their ability to register new players.

Although the club secured a deal with Nike to increase revenue, it is insufficient to cover Olmo’s registration.

Barcelona is exploring two potential solutions to extend Olmo’s registration: the presale of VIP seats for the redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou and a personal guarantee from a board member, a method previously used for other registrations.

Striker Pau Víctor, also in a similar situation, could face the same issue.

Despite the challenges, Barcelona president Joan Laporta remains optimistic that both Olmo and Víctor’s registrations will be extended before the deadline, but the club faces a race against time to finalize the process.
