Diddy, the famous rapper and producer, recently revealed on Twitter that he pays Sting, the British hitmaker, $5,000 every day in royalties for sampling his iconic 1983 single, Every Breath You Take, on Diddy’s 1997 single, I’ll Be Missing You.
This payment is due to not clearing the sample beforehand.
Sting confirmed the rumors during an interview with The Breakfast Club, stating that he receives $5,000 a day from Diddy for the rest of his life.
Despite the initial oversight, Sting and Diddy are now good friends. I’ll Be Missing You was a tribute to the late rapper The Notorious B.I.G.
If Diddy continues to pay Sting $5,000 every day, Sting would make approximately $1.8 million per year.
