Jurgen Klopp has announced that Liverpool centre back Joe Gomez will miss their upcoming clash with Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield due to injury.
The England international has been sidelined for two matches now due to a muscle issue, one he picked up during Real Madrid’s 5-2 defeat of the Merseyside last month.
Throughout the season thus far, Gomez has accumulated 29 appearances in all competitions and has been a regular presence for the club.
Liverpool have remained successful at center back despite these setbacks, garnering clean sheets in their previous two matches since the Madrid offset.
According to Klopp, Gomez is still “not close enough” to rejoin the team’s lineup ahead of their duel with United this weekend.
Beyond that, Thiago and Luis Diaz remain absentees from training sessions due to individual injuries afflicting them as well; Thiago received damage to his hip last month while Diaz continues his recovery from knee complications experienced in October.
