Michael Essien – Chelsea (2011/12)

Michael won the Champions League once in his career with Chelsea in the 2011-12 season. He was an unused substitute in the final when his side defeated Bayern 4-3 on penalties.

The Ghanaian has also finished as runner-up in the UEFA Champions League once in the 2007-08 season when Chelsea were defeated in the final 6-5 on penalties by Manchester United.

Sulley Muntari – Inter Milan (2009/10)

Muntari was a key part in Inter Milan’s 2010 Champions League triumph playing a total of eight matches leading up to the final.

He came on as a substitute in the 79th minute in the final when his side defeated Bayern Munich 2-0.

Samuel Kuffour – Bayern Munich (2000/01)

Kuffour was an integral part of Bayern Munich’s 2001 Champions League victory playing the full 90 in the final against Valencia which his side won 5-4 on penalties.

He was also part of the Bayern’s squad that came runner-up in the 1998-99 UCL final.

Ibrahim Tanko – Borussia Dortmund (1996/97)

Tanko was part of the Borussia Dortmund squad that lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 1997. He wasn’t named in the squad for the final against Juventus which his side won 3-1.

The Ghanaian made a total of three appearances as a late substitute for the German side in that season’s Champions League.

Abedi Pele – Marseille (1992/93)

Pele played an important role in Marseille’s 1992-93 UEFA Champions League winning season. He played the full match in the final against AC Milan which ended 1-0 to his side.

The Ghanaian provided the assist for the winning goal in the final which got him the Man of the Match award.
