Headies 2025: See Who’s Winning Big at Nigeria’s Top Awards

Nigeria’s biggest music talents are gathering tonight at the Landmark Event Centre for the 17th edition of The Headies Awards.

According to THISDAYLIVE, the award show is returning after a break last year, and in an unexpected twist, this year will see two separate editions, with the 18th scheduled for later in the year.

Known for celebrating emerging and established acts, The Headies has expanded its scope beyond just award presentations. This year, it includes the Headies Creative Summit, a platform where industry leaders engage with upcoming creatives and discuss relevant industry trends.

There are 31 categories in total, including a Special Recognition award which will be presented to KCee, the artist behind the viral hit ‘Ojapiano.’

The Artiste of the Year category features some of the industry’s biggest names: Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Tems, Asake, and Rema. All six artists had a strong year, defined by chart success and sold-out tours.

The Song of the Year category is equally intense. Songs like ‘Showa’ by Kizz Daniel, ‘Commas’ by Ayra Starr, ‘Egwu’ by Chike and Mohbad, ‘Lonely At The Top’ by Asake, ‘Ozeba’ by Rema, and Flavour’s ‘Big Baller’ are all in the running. Two tracks, ‘Egwu’ and ‘Big Baller,’ stood out with massive radio play and party spins.

The Next Rated category, known for its passionate fan support and history of controversy, is back in the spotlight. This year, Qing Madi is the only female nominee alongside Shallipopi, Odumodublvck, Ayo Maff, and Nasboi.

For Afrobeats Album of the Year, the nominees are Victony’s Stubborn, Asake’s Work of Art, Ayra Starr’s The Year I Turned 21, Rema’s Heis, and Young Jonn’s Jiggy Forever. These albums played a central role during the eligibility period of April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.

The night promises more than just award ceremonies. It will spotlight the future of Nigerian music as a new wave of stars prepares to take center stage.

As Headies founder Ayo Animashaun once said, “It’s not just about awards, it’s about celebrating our culture and creating a platform for the next generation.”
