Usman Ododo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi State governorship election, has been endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Friday when Governor Yahaya Bello presented Ododo to Buhari at the State House in Aso Rock, Abuja.
Ododo emerged as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Kogi on Friday, April 14.
He expressed his readiness to continue the legacy of Governor Bello if he emerged victorious in the November polls.
The APC candidate is confident in his ability to lead Kogi State, given his experience in both the private and public sectors of the economy.
He assured State House correspondents that he is ready to steer the ship of leadership in the state and continue the developmental strides that the current administration has achieved.
However, Senator Smart Adeyemi, a son of former Kogi State Governor, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, and three other contestants who contested the primary, have demanded the immediate cancellation of the exercise.
They alleged that the unlawful selection of Ododo contravened Section 177 of the 1999 Constitution, Section 29 and 84 of the Electoral Act, as well as Article 20 of the APC Constitution.
The aggrieved governorship aspirants are calling for a new primary to be conducted, arguing that the process was not transparent and did not comply with the relevant laws and regulations.
The Kogi State governorship election is expected to be hotly contested, with several parties vying for the governorship position.
