The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that it has suspended Senator Dino Melaye over alleged anti-party activities in the State.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by Farouk Yahaya, State Secretary of the party, the PDP said at no time did it contemplate the suspension of the governorship aspirant.

The statement also warned trouble and mischief makers who are bent on causing crisis in the PDP to desist, pointing out that the party remains focused going into the primary election.

The PDP urged members of the party and the general public to discountenance the “misleading information”, pointing out that it is “fake news”.

This development comes amidst speculations that Senator Dino Melaye may defect to another party, following reports of alleged cold war between him and some top leaders of the PDP in the State.

However, the PDP leadership in the State has debunked the rumors, insisting that the party remains united and focused on the task of taking over the State in the forthcoming governorship election.

The denial by the Kogi State PDP may come as a relief to the teeming supporters of Senator Dino Melaye who have been apprehensive over the fate of the outspoken politician within the party.

Melaye, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the PDP in 2018 amidst controversy, and has been a major contender for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the November 2023 election.

With this development, it appears that the PDP in Kogi State may be working towards a united front in its bid to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the State.

The APC, which has been in power in the State since 2015, has faced criticisms over its handling of the affairs of the State, particularly in the areas of security and development.

The Kogi State governorship election, scheduled for November 2023, promises to be a keenly contested one, as both the APC and PDP are expected to put up strong candidates for the race.

The PDP, which has been the major opposition party in the State, is hoping to take advantage of the alleged dwindling popularity of the APC, to make a major breakthrough in the State.
