Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could be gearing up for a surprising venture into club ownership.
According to recent reports from French outlet L’Equipe, the 25-year-old intends to purchase Ligue 1 club FC Nantes.
This isn’t the first time Alexander-Arnold has been linked with the ownership of a major football club in France.
Previously, he expressed interest in acquiring AS Saint-Étienne and Le Havre.
Nantes is currently denying any connections to him.
Alexander-Arnold is not new to sports investments in France, as he holds a minority stake in the Alpine F1 Team.
He has reportedly teamed up with his father, Michael Arnold, to make an offer of £83.8 million for Nantes.
They have conducted three meetings with the club’s current owner, Waldemar Kita, with the most recent taking place in London.
The funding for the purchase is partly supported by a London-based investment firm where his father is employed.
Nantes is owned by French businessman Waldemar Kita, who purchased the club in 2007.
During his tenure, the club won only a single trophy, the Coupe de France in 2022.
Recent reports indicate that Kita is losing interest in the club, which could improve Alexander-Arnold’s chances of completing the purchase.
Given Kita’s unpopularity among fans at the Stade de la Beaujoire, supporters are unlikely to oppose his departure, though he will not sell until he receives an offer that allows him to recover his losses.
