Manchester United have sealed a shock loan deal for Premier League flop, Wout Weghorst, as a short-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 30-year-old Dutch forward has been on loan at Besiktas from Burnley and United pushed through a £2.6 million loan fee until the end of the season.

Weghorst was unable to replicate his form from Wolfsburg with the Turf Moor side and was part of their relegation last season.

Following nine goals in 18 Turkish games, and two in the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina, United think he can improve his scoring record with better service than he had at Burnley.

With an overall goal scoring record across several leagues in Europe, United hope Weghorst will bolster their forward options for their goals this season despite no contractual option to purchase included in the deal.

Despite his arrival signaling an intent to achieve success this season, the Old Trafford outfit may be looking for a bigger name signing come summertime.
