Meta, a digital platform that powers the likes of Mastodon, has declared its plans to develop a social network app similar to Twitter.

With a codename of “P92”, the yet-to-be-launched platform will be decentralized and be accessible with Instagram logins.

Meta intends to make use of existing user data from Instagram even in cases where users do not join their proposed social media network.

Writing on the heels of Twitter’s downturn since its takeover by Elon Musk, Meta have also revealed that it will introduce a paid subscription for users who seek verified status– very similar to Twitter Blue.

The Information, however, noted that this approach experienced limited success as only 0.2% of US users signed up for the same till date.

It remains to be seen how this new project by Meta fares when compared with other existent products such as Jack Dorsey’s Bluesky, etcetera.
