A woman attempting to smuggle cocaine to Iran was arrested by operatives of Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State, as part of a series of nationwide drug busts.
According to The Nation, the suspect, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, concealed 2.5kg of cocaine in multiple compartments—including her private parts, handbag, and swallowed pellets. NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, intercepted her on May 3 at the airport’s departure hall while she was en route to Iran via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said, “She confessed that she wanted to swallow 70 pellets of cocaine but after ingesting 67 pieces, she could no longer take the remaining ones, so she decided to insert them in her private part.”
On the same day at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, NDLEA officers arrested 22-year-old British national Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, who arrived from Thailand with 37.6kg of Loud, a potent cannabis strain. He reportedly has two prior convictions in the United Kingdom.
In a separate operation in Niger State, officers intercepted a fuel tanker and three vehicles transporting 3,047kg of skunk along the Suleja-Kaduna Road. Four suspects were arrested, and several vehicles seized.
Additional arrests and drug seizures were made across Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Kwara, and Bauchi states:
- 775 litres of codeine syrup in Kano
- 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol, and nitrazepam in Lagos
- 505kg of skunk in Bauchi
- 45,400 pills of tramadol in Kwara
These operations reflect the agency’s intensified efforts to curtail illicit drug trafficking across key routes within Nigeria.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), praised the agency’s personnel for their vigilance and coordination, which led to the successful operations nationwide.
