Starting July 15, the United Kingdom will roll out a digital e-Visa for Nigerians applying for study and work visas, making the process faster and more secure, NaijNaira can report.
This update, confirmed by the British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Gill Lever, during a press statement reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, marks a shift towards a fully digital immigration system.
Lever explained that successful applicants will no longer receive visa stickers in their passports but will instead access their visa status digitally.
“We are making it easier and faster for Nigerians to travel to the UK,” she said.
Those applying as dependants or for standard visitor visas will still receive physical visa stickers.
Applicants must still visit a visa application center to submit their biometric data.
Once a decision is made, UK Visas and Immigration will send an email with instructions on setting up a UKVI account.
Through the UKVI platform, users can view and prove their immigration status online.
Lever also noted that this new e-Visa system has already replaced biometric residence permits for individuals granted leave exceeding six months.
She added, “Customers with a UKVI account can use the view and prove service to securely share their immigration status with third parties, such as employers or landlords.”
