Governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have openly cautioned Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his camp against moves capable of destabilizing the party’s upcoming convention – www.naijnaira.com reports.

The Zamfara State Government House in Gusau hosted the meeting on Saturday, August 23, 2025, where the governors resolved to stand firmly by the decisions reached during the National Executive Committee (NEC) session in July, according to Sahara Reporters.

That NEC meeting had already endorsed Ibadan, Oyo State, as host of the national convention, now fixed for November 15.

“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention,” the communiqué stated.

The governors described the PDP as Nigeria’s strongest democratic institution and urged members to resist what they called “anti-party forces.”

They argued that only the PDP holds the capacity to bring back stability and good governance to the country.

The gathering, presided over by Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, stressed that defections and crises cannot erode the party’s deep grassroots base.

Wike had recently condemned the handling of the South-South congress and insisted his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, must be recognised as National Vice Chairman.

He also rejected the zoning panel chaired by Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, escalating divisions within the party.

The governors, however, emphasized unity, insisting the November convention must go ahead without interference.
