Thousands of properties in Abuja, including the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will be sealed beginning Monday, according to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The action follows the March 2025 revocation of 4,794 land titles by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), as reported by The Nation. The affected areas include the Central Business District, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape. The government says these properties had unpaid Ground Rent ranging from one to 43 years.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, confirmed that the government would begin enforcing its ownership rights from May 26. “Ownership of the revoked 4,794 properties… had already reverted to the FCTA, and as from Monday next week, the government will begin to exercise its rights of ownership,” he said during a press briefing.
Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, added that the courts have not restricted the FCTA’s actions, stating that no valid ruling had been made to halt the process. He emphasized that the revocation notices were served on the title holders, not current occupants or tenants.
One of the notable properties affected is Wadata Plaza, currently used as the PDP national secretariat. However, Nwankwoeze clarified that the title is held by Samaila Mamang Ofu, not the PDP. “The one in Zone 5, where they are currently occupying as their national headquarters, does not belong to PDP,” he stated.
The move is part of a broader crackdown on defaulting property owners in Abuja. Records are being compiled on compliance by title holders, and further actions will follow once analysis is complete.
Government agencies and organizations also on the revocation list include the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Postal Service, Nigerian Universities Commission, NNPC, and various ministries.
The FCTA insists that all enforcement actions will align strictly with existing laws and procedures.
