President Joe Biden, who is currently 80 years old, has confirmed that he plans to run for re-election in 2024.
In an interview with Al Roker on the “TODAY” show, Biden stated that he intends to run but has not yet made a formal announcement.
It is expected that he will run alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.
Biden has consistently expressed his plans to run for a second term, and his top advisers are currently finalizing his re-election campaign.
The decision to run was made after considering factors such as the lack of major competitors from the Democratic party, the legal issues faced by former President Donald Trump, and the emerging divisions with congressional Republicans over U.S. spending and Biden’s budget.
While polls have shown that nearly half of respondents do not want Biden to run for a second term, Democratic insiders reportedly back his re-election bid.
If he were to win the 2024 election, he would be 86 years old when he finishes his second term.
The presidential race in 2024 will be a build-up from Biden’s State of the Union address in February 2023, during which he focused largely on domestic and economic priorities.
