US President Biden Congratulates Turkish Counterpart Erdogan on Re-Election

US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken both congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election after he won Turkey’s presidential runoff election on Sunday.

Biden tweeted his congratulations and expressed his desire to continue working together as NATO allies on bilateral issues and shared global challenges.

Blinken also took to Twitter to congratulate Erdogan and the Turkish people on their high turnout, calling Turkey a valued NATO ally and partner.

Erdogan addressed his supporters outside the Presidential Palace, celebrating his election to a third term and calling for unity around national goals and dreams.

Opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, however, criticized the election period as the most unfair in Turkey’s history and vowed to continue fighting for real democracy in the country.
