Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Valencia has been postponed due to devastating flash floods in Spain that have claimed at least 95 lives and left many others missing.
Valencia requested the postponement, and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed the decision, which also affects other matches in the region, including Villarreal vs. Rayo Vallecano.
In light of these events, Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, declared three days of national mourning. The RFEF also voiced its commitment to solidarity with those affected by the floods.
As part of this response, all matches scheduled over the weekend in the Valencian community will be postponed.
This includes not only the major clash between Valencia CF and Real Madrid but also other important fixtures within both La Liga and Segunda Division.
Real Madrid will now shift their focus toward the upcoming Champions League match against AC Milan on Tuesday Evening.
They will then welcome Osasuna to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the Spanish top flight next weekend.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the La Liga table when they host Espanyol in the Catalan derby on Sunday.
