The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on New Media, Jubril Gawat, has refuted claims that he intends to run for the governorship position in Abia or Anambra State in 2027.

This response comes after a campaign poster featuring Gawat for the 2027 Abia State governorship election under the Labour Party (LP) platform circulated online.

Gawat took to social media to clarify his stance, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the progress of Lagos State. He expressed gratitude for the attention generated by the poster but made it clear that he has no intention of contesting for any position in Abia, Anambra, or any other state.

He stated, “The progress of every state is important to me, most especially Lagos State.”

He wrote: “Good evening everyone, Thanks for Sharing my impromptu photo that dropped earlier today, I appreciate. I also wish to clarify that I am NOT vying for any position in Abia or Anambra State or anywhere, either by ‘Residency or Indigeneship’. The progress of every state is important to me, most especially Lagos State.

“I know it was just cruise but it is equally important to debunk the false information. IGBEGA ILU EKO… AJUMOSE NI, ITESIWAJU ILU ABIA LO JE WA LOGUN. Nigeria o ni baje o.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu echoed this sentiment, urging Nigerians to refrain from speaking negatively about the country.

He spoke of the need for citizens to change their thoughts and speak positively about Nigeria, as this is what will bring about positive change.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that God will improve the country’s story when people stop cursing and saying bad things.
