Sean Dyche is the newly appointed manager of Everton and what a journey it has been for him so far.
From managing Burnley in an era where Chelsea spent over 70 million euros on Kai Havertz and Manchester United splashed 80 million euros on Harry Maguire, Dyche somehow managed to keep his side afloat with a shoestring budget and even took them as far as the Europa League.
With a knack for humour, he jokingly mentioned during one press conference that they had managed to recruit Lionel Messi after he left Barcelona.
Knowing the financial struggles of Burnley, when asked how they managed to take on Messi’s wages, Dyche quipped that the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner was self-funding his move due to the “love he had for the club and its magnificent football”.
With his long ball tactics often referred to as haram football, it would have been interesting to see how this meshed with Messi’s playing style as he looked set to link up with Wout Weghorst and Ashley Barnes.
Ultimately, however, this potential switch failed to materialise when PSG outstripped Burnley for the Argentine’s services.
After Marcelo Bielsa was unable to agree terms with Everton previously, it seems that Sean Dyche will take over their management duties in a high-stakes fight against relegation from Premier League contention.
