On July 13, 2023, the Nigeria Senate commenced the screening process for the service chiefs nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
The nominees include Christopher Musa as chief of defence staff, Taoreed Lagbaja as chief of army staff, Emmanuel Ogalla as chief of naval staff, and Hassan Abubakar as chief of air staff.
President Tinubu had written to the national assembly, seeking confirmation of these security chiefs based on section 18(1) of the armed forces act.
During the screening, the nominees had the opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss their careers, the country’s security challenges, and their plans to address them.
Taoreed Lagbaja, the chief of army staff, emphasized the importance of sound leadership and collaboration with other security agencies.
Emmanuel Ogalla, the chief of naval staff, expressed his understanding of the challenges facing the navy and his commitment to giving his best if given the opportunity to serve.
The screening then proceeded into a closed session.
