Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer, will remain in police custody for an additional four days as granted by the magistrates’ court in Yaba, Lagos.

Seun was arrested on Monday after being filmed assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The police had sought to keep him in custody for 21 days, but the court directed the police to detain him for an additional 48 hours and then release him on bail.

However, on Thursday, the police requested an extension to allow further investigation into the case.

The chief magistrate ruled that Kuti be remanded in police custody until May 22 and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.

The police recently conducted a search at Seun’s home and found suspicious things.

Seun is charged with assaulting a police officer and could face up to three years in prison if convicted under Nigerian laws.
