Nigerian singer, Timaya, recently opened up about his early years in the music industry, disclosing that he spent three years as a backup singer for his colleague, Eedris Abdulkareem.
Timaya acknowledged the significant role this experience played in shaping his career.
During his time as a backup singer for Abdulkareem, Timaya absorbed valuable knowledge and skills that would later contribute to his own success.
After gaining this valuable experience, Timaya made the decision to return to his hometown of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Despite living in Port Harcourt, he recognized the need to promote his music from Lagos due to the city’s larger music industry presence.
Timaya explained that the cost of living in Lagos was initially a challenge for him, but he understood the importance of establishing a strong foundation for his career.
He believed that once an artist achieves recognition in a particular location, it is necessary to venture beyond that place and support their hometown from a distance.
Timaya even advised fellow artist Burna Boy to leave Port Harcourt after his breakthrough.
While Timaya and Abdulkareem are no longer in communication, Timaya emphasized that he still considers Abdulkareem his boss.
He clarified that their lack of communication does not stem from any quarrel between them.
