Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively, have traded bitter words in recent weeks.
Tinubu’s camp claimed that it had uncovered damning evidence against Atiku, which included allegations of money laundering and criminal breach of trust.
They went on to issue a 72-hour ultimatum for the anti-graft agencies to arrest Atiku for these alleged crimes.
The PDP countered this by describing the accusations as being simulated and an attempt to distract from real issues affecting Nigerians.
The PDP also demanded that Tinubu be arrested for allegedly forming ‘Jagaban Army’, a militia gang set up to disrupt the 2023 general elections and commit electoral fraud for him.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has criticised Atiku and Tinubu for these campaigns of calumny.
A spokesperson for Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, Yunusa Tanko, warned Nigerians not to vote in either candidate due to their alleged misconduct, instead urging them to vote in Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
He emphasised his point by calling on Nigerians to make use of their voting power to eliminate those perpetrating poverty in Nigeria in favour of Obi.
