James Cameron, the director of the movie Titanic, has expressed his condolences over the confirmed deaths of all five passengers onboard the tourist submersible named Titan.

The submarine went missing during an expedition to view the Titanic shipwreck on Sunday, June 18th, and officials have determined that it experienced a “catastrophic implosion”.

Cameron, who has made 33 dives to the Titanic wreckage site himself over the years, said that many people in the community were concerned about the sub and that warnings had gone unheeded.

He also compared the tragedy to the Titanic disaster itself, where warnings were ignored and many people died as a result.

Cameron expressed his shock and sadness over the death of renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, who was a friend of his.

The US Coast Guard has announced a “debris field” near the Titanic at the bottom of the sea floor.
