French side OGC Nice is set to send Nigerian forward Victor Orakpo on loan to Montpellier after limited first-team opportunities last season, NaijNaira can report.
According to Get French Football News, the 19-year-old striker will make the temporary switch as he looks for regular minutes following a quiet spell at Nice.
Orakpo joined the senior squad last year after Terem Moffi suffered an ACL injury. But with the return of Moffi and the presence of forwards like Evann Guessand and Gaetan Laborde, Orakpo struggled for minutes.
“Game time is crucial for my development,” Orakpo once said, underlining his need for a move.
Montpellier, recently relegated to Ligue 2, sees the deal as a low-risk opportunity to add firepower without overspending.
Despite their poor showing in Ligue 1 last season, Montpellier remains a strong platform for young talent aiming to step up.
Orakpo, known for his strength, aerial ability, and finishing, brings a physical edge that could benefit the Ligue 2 outfit.
At just 19, he’s eager to prove himself and fight for a future at Nice—or possibly earn a permanent move elsewhere.
The striker gained attention in 2022 during an international youth tournament hosted by Bayern Munich, where he won MVP.
That performance drew interest from top clubs including Bayern, AC Milan, and Tottenham, but he opted to join Nice instead.
