A tragic train accident in the eastern state of Odisha, India has left nearly 300 people dead and hundreds more injured.

The Coromandel Express, a passenger train running between Kolkata and Chennai, derailed and collided with a goods train, marking the deadliest train accident in the country in over 20 years.

The crash, which occurred in the Balasore district, has resulted in at least 900 injuries.

Rescue efforts are underway, with fire department personnel and police officers working to save trapped survivors.
