Xavi to be Replaced by One of These 7 Stand-Out Candidates as Barcelona Manager

With Xavi rumored to be leaving Barcelona, the club is faced with the daunting task of finding a suitable replacement. Here, we take a look at seven potential candidates who could take over the reins at Camp Nou.

7. Luis Enrique

Reports suggest that Barcelona may attempt to lure Luis Enrique back to the club, a decade after he led them to a treble. However, Enrique is currently the manager of Paris Saint-Germain and has a contract until 2025, which he is likely to honor. Even if he were to consider a return, Barcelona would have to pay a hefty compensation fee and offer a substantial wage package. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely that Enrique will be the next Barcelona manager.

6. Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim is one of the most sought-after managers in the market right now. However, Barcelona’s chances of making an official approach for him are hindered by his high price tag. Sporting CP would demand significant compensation, and there is also interest from other clubs, such as Liverpool, which would drive up his wages. While it is not impossible for Barcelona to secure Amorim’s services, it is highly unlikely given the financial obstacles.

5. Roberto De Zerbi

If Barcelona truly want Roberto De Zerbi, they have the means to land him. However, the main issue lies in the financial aspect. Brighton would demand substantial compensation to release De Zerbi from his contract, and even if Barcelona manages to meet the cost, there is no guarantee of success. Taking charge of Barcelona would be the biggest challenge of De Zerbi’s career, and the risk/reward factor is something the club would need to carefully consider.

4. Simone Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi has been doing remarkable things with Inter Milan, winning two Coppa Italia titles and reaching the Champions League final. He has achieved this success on a limited budget and has his team playing some of the best football in Europe. While there may be concerns about his ability to adapt to Barcelona’s style and the pressure that comes with managing the club, there is no doubt that Inzaghi would be eager to test himself at another iconic institution. The main hurdle for Barcelona would be prying him away from Inter, which would require a significant financial investment.

3. Julian Nagelsmann

Interestingly, Barcelona wouldn’t have to spend a significant amount of money to appoint Julian Nagelsmann. His contract with the Germany national team expires after Euro 2024, making him an attractive option. Nagelsmann is a highly regarded manager with a keen tactical understanding and a proven ability to build successful teams. While there may be concerns about convincing him to take on the high-pressure job at Barcelona and the timing of his availability after the Euros, it is not an unrealistic possibility.

2. Rafa Marquez

Promoting Rafa Marquez from Barcelona Atletic would be a sensible move for the club. Marquez has worked wonders since being appointed as Barcelona B manager in 2022. He has guided the team to unbeaten runs and built a well-coached squad with a young average age. As a former player and current employee of the club, Marquez has a deep understanding of the club’s intricacies and would have a close rapport with the players. Additionally, he would be a cost-effective option and likely to have the backing of the owners. However, it is possible that Barcelona may prioritize an established manager before considering Marquez.

1. Hansi Flick

While promoting Marquez would be a romantic choice, Hansi Flick emerges as the top candidate. Flick, who recently left Bayern Munich after winning a treble, has a proven record of playing brilliant, entertaining football. Despite a less successful stint with the German national team, his achievements at Bayern cannot be ignored. Flick is currently available and eager to get back into work. He has experience in turning around a ship at a top club and plays an exciting brand of football. Barcelona should strongly consider pursuing Flick if Xavi decides to depart.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Barcelona’s board and their vision for the future. Each of these candidates brings their own strengths and challenges, and it will be interesting to see who ultimately takes charge of one of the world’s most prestigious football clubs.
