YouTube Music has integrated podcasts into its app in the US, allowing users to access podcasts alongside their music.
The move follows the launch of youtube.com/podcasts last year on the web.
While YouTube Music has been criticized for its limited features unless users pay for it, Google has stated that podcast listening will be free and will not require payment for features such as background playback and offline playback.
To set up a podcast on the platform, creators can tag existing playlists as podcasts in YouTube Studio and include a special square podcast thumbnail.
Google plans to promote podcasts on the “Home” and “Explore” pages of the YouTube Music app and will roll out the feature to other countries in the future.
There is currently no information on what will happen to Google’s other podcast app, Google Podcasts.
