President Joe Biden has announced a $42 billion plan to provide high-speed broadband to every household in the United States by 2030.
The funding will be provided by the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, which is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Each state will receive at least $107 million to fund the project, with Texas receiving the largest amount of funding at $3.3 billion.
The plan aims to address the fact that over 8.5 million homes and small businesses in the US lack high-speed internet access.
The White House has compared the project to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s effort to bring electricity to rural America in the 1930s.
The initiative has been described as the biggest investment in high-speed internet ever.
