Brazil’s World Cup qualifying struggles continued with a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in Asuncion.

Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez, who is reportedly set to join Brighton in the Premier League, scored the match’s only goal with a powerful long-range shot that hit the post in the 20th minute.

The loss leaves Brazil in fifth place with 10 points, just ahead of Venezuela on goal difference, after they drew 0-0 with Uruguay.

Paraguay moved up to seventh place with nine points, securing only their second win of the qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Chile’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup took another hit after a 2-1 home loss to Bolivia.

Goals from Carmelo Algaranaz and Miguel Terceros saw Bolivia climb to eighth, level on points with Paraguay but trailing on goal difference.

Chile languish in ninth place with just five points from eight games and are at risk of missing a third consecutive World Cup after failing to qualify in 2018 and 2022.
