James Maddison marked his 28th birthday in spectacular fashion, scoring a brilliant first-half double as Tottenham dismantled Manchester City 4-0 in the Premier League.
This was City’s heaviest defeat at the Etihad and their first home loss in the league since a 2-1 defeat to Brentford two years ago.
The game began with City showing early promise, but Tottenham struck first when Maddison volleyed home a cross from Dejan Kulusevski on 15 minutes.
Just five minutes later, he doubled the lead, latching onto a precise pass from Son Heung-min to chip the ball over Ederson.
Man City‘s struggles continued in the second half, and Tottenham capitalized on a poor City pass.
Dominic Solanke set up Pedro Porro, who blasted the ball into the net on 52 minutes.
By this point, City’s hopes were shattered.
In added time, Brennan Johnson completed the rout, tapping in from a Timo Werner assist to make it 4-0.
This heavy defeat marked a fifth consecutive loss for Guardiola’s side, the worst run in his managerial career.
It was also City’s heaviest home loss since they moved to the Etihad in 2003.
Tottenham’s win saw them climb to sixth, just four points behind City.
Meanwhile, Liverpool can extend their lead over City to eight points if they beat Southampton on Sunday.
