Business magnate Elon Musk is considering placing a bid for Manchester United in the sale being orchestrated by the Glazer family.
According to The Daily Mail, though Friday’s deadline set by investment bank The Raine Group quickly approaches, Musk is contemplating joining the reported dozens of interested individuals and groups by putting an offer on the table.
With an estimated net worth of £157 billion, Sir Jim Ratcliffe–Britain’s wealthiest man and CEO of INEOS–as well as Qataris, Saudi Arabian investors, and other Americans are jockeying to acquire the club.
If successful, their bid could be as much as £4.5 billion; this would make Manchester United the world’s most expensive sporting franchise, surpassing last year’s purchase of NFL’s Denver Broncos at £3.7 billion.
But any potential new owner will also need to devote additional funds to redevelop Old Trafford.
Still, with Tesla share prices causing his wealth to decline by £150 billion since November, this does not seem to worry Musk who was already talking about buying Man U even before he stated it was a joke on Twitter back in August.
