Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia is set to leave the club on loan this January, according to reports.
Since joining the club in 2022 for approximately £13 million from Feyenoord, the 25-year-old defender has struggled to maintain consistent fitness.
His career at United has been marred by significant injury problems, particularly a debilitating knee issue that sidelined him for nearly a year and a half.
Although he returned to fitness and featured in a few games under manager Ruben Amorim, Malacia has been given permission to leave Old Trafford this month.
Malacia is reportedly close to finalizing a loan move to a top European club, though the destination has not been disclosed.
Amorim has approved the move as he seeks reinforcements at left-back, despite missing out on a potential signing of PSG’s Nuno Mendes, who is expected to stay in Paris and may even sign a contract extension.
Malacia made his first appearance of the season in a Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt but has only accumulated 199 minutes across all competitions.
Under Amorim, Diogo Dalot has been favored as the first-choice left wing-back, with Noussair Mazraoui also capable of filling in.
United fans may be concerned about the depth at left-back, especially given the setback in the pursuit of Mendes.
However, Amorim has emphasized his focus on current players rather than any immediate transfers.
