Veteran Nollywood actor, Zack Orji, recently shared a harrowing experience that led him to undergo two brain surgeries in Nigeria. In an interview on Channels TV, Orji recounted the events that unfolded when he suddenly slumped in the bathroom, resulting in a critical medical emergency.
Orji expressed his gratitude for being alive today, attributing it to the grace of God. He recalled being unconscious for approximately five and a half hours before help arrived. His friend, Bala Ahmed, who was in the UK at the time, was alerted by people at Orji’s house. Ahmed immediately reached out to colleagues who rushed to Orji’s aid.

Benedict Johnson and another colleague, known as Labista, lifted Orji from the second floor to the ground floor and took him to the national hospital. On January 1st, Dr. Biodun Ogungbo, a renowned neurosurgeon, performed the first surgery. Orji praised Dr. Ogungbo, describing him as an “awesome guy.”
A month later, Orji underwent a second surgery by the same doctor after scans revealed a residual blood clot. Throughout his ordeal, Orji received immense support from prominent figures, including the President of Nigeria, the President’s wife, the Vice President’s wife, the President’s son, and several ministers.
Expressing his gratitude, Orji acknowledged the overwhelming response from people around the world. He received calls from South Africa, the UK, and the US, with many offering assistance and asking how they could help.
After recovering in Nigeria, Orji sought post-surgery assessment in the UK, consulting with Dr. John Yeh. Orji remains thankful to God and all the individuals who stepped in to support him during his challenging journey.
