According to Vanguard News, “Wait, didn’t Obaseki support the other candidate?” Yes, he did. Former Governor Godwin Obaseki had backed Asue Ighodalo of the PDP in the 2024 governorship election, opposing Okpebholo, who ran under the APC.
Yet, in an unexpected twist, the Obaseki family has put aside political differences. They’ve gone ahead to praise Okpebholo’s win, describing it as a “well-deserved victory at the Tribunal.”
The statement from the family came from Benjamin Igbinovia Obaseki, Mr. Osaro Obaseki, and Mrs. Emwanta Obaseki. They expressed confidence in the judicial process and said, “The judiciary again has proven they are the hope of the people and a pillar for which justice and democracy shall continually stand.”
But the family didn’t stop there. They also commended Okpebholo for his early actions as governor. They’ve pointed out his focus on crucial reforms, like his stand against illegal union dues and his efforts in awarding road contracts, public service reform, and economic revival.
In closing, they shared their hope for his tenure: “You have started well, and God will help you to end well. It is going to be eight years of performance and reforms.”
