Protests have been ongoing in Benin City, Edo State, due to an unofficial N700/litre price hike in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), more commonly known as petrol.

The protesters are asking the state government to form a price control committee to regulate fuel and other essential items’ prices.

This protest has caused gridlock on Sapele Road, Ring Road, and other areas of the city.

Omobude Agho, formerly of EDOSCO, noted it was anti-people for minimum wage earners to suffer such hardships when the bag of rice costs over N50,000.

The Edo State Government has stated that it will work with relevant stakeholders within 24 hours to create a monitoring committee that ensures fuel marketers do not exploit citizens.
