Manchester United are eyeing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte as they continue their summer transfer search.
The FA Cup winners are keen to add another midfielder and have identified the Uruguay international as a potential target, though no formal bid has been made, and a deal isn’t imminent.
Ugarte, 23, joined PSG last summer from Sporting Lisbon for €60 million, making 37 appearances in his debut season.
However, he fell out of favor towards the end, with Fabian Ruiz, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Vitinha preferred during the Champions League semi-final loss to Borussia Dortmund.
United might seek Ugarte as a replacement for Sofyan Amrabat, who completed his loan from Fiorentina.
Although United have the option to buy Amrabat for €20 million, they are exploring alternatives, including Ugarte.
Additionally, the futures of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are uncertain. Eriksen is dissatisfied with his limited first-team opportunities, and United might consider offloading Casemiro, one of their highest earners, to free up funds.
United are also looking to strengthen their defense and attack.
They have shown interest in several forwards, including Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, and Jonathan David of Lille.
In defense, they recently made a £35 million offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, which was rejected.
