Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has expressed his reaction to the re-arrest of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, by the Department of State Services (DSS), despite a court ruling.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo had granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N20 million, but the DSS refused to allow prison officials to take him, leading to a confrontation.
Falana questioned why the officials disobeyed a court order, especially considering the administration’s commitment to the rule of law.
He also highlighted Emefiele’s history of disregarding court orders during his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Falana called for the security officers involved in the incident to be identified and sanctioned, and for the federal government to ensure the immediate obedience of court orders.
He concluded by urging all public officers to learn from Emefiele’s situation and avoid arrogance and impunity.
