Bruce Grobbelaar – Zimbabwe (Liverpool FC, 1983-84)
Grobbelaar was the first-ever African goalkeeper as well as the first-ever African to win the Champions League when Liverpool won the trophy in the 1983-84 season.
He produced a fine performance in the final against Roma which his side won 4-2 on penalties with him saving the opponent’s decisive penalty.
The Zimbabwean also possesses a Champions League runner-up medal in the 1984-85 season after his side were defeated by Juventus1-0 in the final.
Édouard Mendy – Senegal (Chelsea, 2020-21)
Mendy became the second African goalkeeper to win the UEFA Champions League when he won it with Chelsea in 2021 after defeating rivals Manchester City 1-0 in the final.
Following an impressive performance in the tournament, the Senegal international won the 2020-21 UCL goalkeeper of the season and the 2021 Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.
He also went on to win the UEFA Super Cup and FFA Club World Cup that year.
