Gunmen threaten to abduct Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi

Two masked gunmen on motorcycles fired shots into a grocery store owned by the family of Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi’s wife in Rosario, Argentina, on Thursday according to local media reports.

In addition, a hand-written note threatening Messi was left at the door of the store.

Rosario mayor Pablo Javkin accused federal authorities of not taking proper measures to control the surge in drug violence and proceeded to inspect the scene.

Justice Minister Celia Arena stated that this attack constituted an act of ‘terrorism’ by a mafia organization intended to create fear throughout the community.

Mayor Javkin expressed his doubts with regards to those who were supposed to protect them and mentioned that he had recently been engaged in “very strong discussions” with members of the federal security force about crime prevention in the area.
